On the 28th June 2021 EU commission announced that adequacy decisions for the UK have been approved. Elizabeth Denham the UK Information Commissioner said this is a positive result for UK business and organisations.
But what next? How do we stay in Adequacy ? In general this will be reviewed in 4 years' time, however the European Parliament and the EU Council may request the EU Commission to maintain, amend or withdraw the adequacy decision sooner where a major incident or change in how or who we consider for adequacy
For businesses:
Adequacy should remain on your risk register and it should be a major consideration during procurement tenders you are applying for and when purchasing services & products.
Your business should also continue to assess & plan for business continuity should this decision be overturned.
